On Thursday 26 September South Hunsley welcomed prospective students and their families to our popular Year 6 Open Evening event, offering a glimpse into our curricular offer and school community.
Welcome talks were held in Riding Hall, opened by a small group of current Year 7 students who spoke to the audience about their experience of joining South Hunsley School only a few weeks before. Our Headteacher Ms Blackledge then presented the school’s ethos and values, as well as our students’ academic achievements and the ways in which the school commits to creating a happy learning environment.
Guests were invited to take part in guided tours hosted by a team of Year 11 and Sixth Form students, where they were shown all the main buildings across the site as well as the communal areas such as the canteens, assembly halls, SEND space and much more. The tours took parents and children to a number of classrooms where teachers presented subject-specific demonstrations – 3D printing, science experiments, rock climbing are just a few examples of the activities that took place throughout the evening.
The Space held a number of stands with information on our support services as well as menu tasters and refreshments. A group of Year 7 students also held a charity bake sale for Macmillan Cancer Support, helping to raise over £80 for the cause – thank you to all who bought a bun or donated a bake.
Overall we were very pleased to meet so many prospective students and their families. Thank you to all who could join us.
