Draco House held an Easter Fair on Friday 24 March to help raise funds for Eckersley House and the Sick Children’s Trust, which supports families with a seriously ill child. 

The event invited students and staff to enjoy a fun-filled day including a bake sale, raffle and games. Local companies and traders from the local community very kindly gifted a large number of raffle prizes such as hampers, gift vouchers, free tickets and many more – all of which were awarded to the winning raffle ticket numbers. Students were given the opportunity to win a prize for a basketball dunk, as well as guessing the teachers from their baby photos and beating the teacher in a maths-based puzzle.

As well as donations from local companies, a very large number of baked goods were kindly provided by parents and families of students for the bake sale – of which all were sold out completely by the end of the lunchtime break!

Four teams of Year 9 students also took part in a football tournament during the fair, competing for the Clarkson-Carter Cup. All teams played brilliantly in front of a large crowd of their peers and gave their best performance to achieve the win. In the end Team 2 emerged victorious and were given the Clarkson-Carter Cup by Mason’s mum, who came along to watch the match along with other family members.

The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families one less thing to worry about by giving them a place to stay, and someone to talk to, free of charge just minutes from their child’s bedside. Eckersley House is one of ten ‘Homes from Home’ locations that supports families from around the UK each year with a warm and comfortable place to stay and a friendly ear to listen.

The event was run in celebration of the life of South Hunsley student Mason Clarkson-Carter who stayed at Eckersley House, and although the total amount raised has not yet been confirmed, all of the proceeds will be donated to the charity.
