The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) has recently issued our School Unit with a certificate to indicate the impact our Unit members have made locally through the Volunteering section of their Award over the last year. This shows a marked increase from the previous year and the time indicated is always a minimum as most of our Unit members carry out more than the one hour per week required by the Award Scheme and often continue to help past their chosen period of months.
Well done to all our Unit members who have contributed to this. Once again they have been active in improving lives locally, nationally and internationally. A wide range of activities are carried out which includes work completed to improve the local environment through Britain in Bloom or individual projects, motivating younger members of many different Uniformed Organisations, sports teams and Church groups, as well as working in charity shops and on online activities, such as the Red Cross Missing Maps project.
Ruth Marvel OBE, CEO of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the impact that young people have made through their DofE volunteering. Volunteering is a great way for young people to build confidence, develop work-related skills and use their passions and talents to benefit others. It changes lives and communities for the better – that’s why it’s an integral part of the DofE programme. We’re so proud of all the young people at the South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College DofE Unit who have dedicated their time and energy to helping others in their communities.”
Many thanks are due to all placement providers and to the individuals who mentor our members and write the essential Assessor reports.
If anyone has potential future activities, please let our members know, contact the School or our DofE Unit Manager lesley.murray@southhunsley.org.uk
