Our annual Sports Awards took place on Monday 24 June in Riding Hall, acknowledging the many sporting achievements and talents of our pupils.
Mr Duerden, Mr Coulbeck and Miss Bennett presented over 95 medals to pupils who have shown hard work and dedication this year across a wide range of disciplines. South Hunsley alumnus Baldvin Magnusson, a 3-time Icelandic National Running Champion and Olympic hopeful, was invited to present the evening’s winners with their awards on stage before receiving his own Alumni Award.
The celebration included awards from a number of categories:
- Endeavour Award for Commitment to Sport
- Excellence Award
- Volunteer Award
- Sports Leadership Award
- Academic Awards
- Team Special Recognition Award
- Team of the Year Award
- Sporting Inspiration Award
- South Hunsley Alumni Award
- Sports Personality of the Year Award
A special moment of the evening was the presentation of the Sporting Inspiration Awards, one of which was dedicated to the memory of South Hunsley pupils Mason Clarkson-Carter and Tom Dennett and the other was named as the Matt Simpson Sporting Inspiration Award – given to Year 13 student Jamie and teacher Mr Binks respectively.
At the end of the ceremony, the coveted Sports Personality of the Year Awards were awarded to Adam R (3rd), El O (2nd) and Olly F (1st). These remarkably talented individuals have consistently displayed exceptional skill, dedication, and leadership qualities throughout their sports journey at South Hunsley School.
We would like to give a special thank you to the PE Department for their commitment to excellence in sports, nurturing and empowering the next generation of sporting champions, and ensuring a bright future for our young athletes.
