The Basics

  • ICDL Advanced is an enrichment course and is take in addition to a students’ study programme
  • Studied over a two year period, consisting of two hours per week
  • This qualification is equivalent to A Level and is worth 24 UCAS points

Is this course for me?

ICDL Advanced is for students who want to keep up their valuable IT skills and want to learn how to use the software applications effectively for the production of professional documents for use in college, university or work situations. Each unit is taught in a practical way, ensuring that students develop the necessary skills to meet the requirements of the course, but also to help them develop the skills necessary for their future careers.


What will I learn?

The BCS Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills (ICDL Advanced) consists of five units all of which use the familiar Microsoft Office software:

  1. Word Processing
  2. Spreadsheets
  3. Presentations
  4. Databases
  5. Improving Productivity using IT

Anything else I should know?

Each unit is assessed by a practical online, scenario-based examination which will be sat just after completion of each individual unit.


Entry requirements

Specific entry requirements: Standard sixth form entry, including grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a Pass grade in ICDL Level 2.


Future opportunities

IT is a key skill that all employers like to see, students that complete this course will have exceptional Office production skills and be able to clearly understand the processes and tools available to complete any form of office work.
